I just got the toro ultra electric blow/shredder. I picked it because it said it reduced 16 to 1. Ya right! It don't 3 to 1. Heck most of the leafs that go threw haven't even got a bruise.
This make 3 that I've had in my life and where deferent brands, that worked like this. Are shredders like a rebate, They sell a bunch and make there money on the ones people don't return?

Darren, I have a Patriot Chipper/Shredder and it shreds the leaves into little pieces. Its a 5 or 9 horse power Tecumseh engine that runs the machine. Tecumseh isnt the best when it comes to small engines, I have had trouble with it and many trips to get fixed. One repair shop said it was no good and he would keep it just for the wheels it sits on. Well, I can save those wheels also, got it fixed and works now. Guy was a rip off. Anyways, a good chipper/shredder works, maybe something with a Briggs and Stattton engine would be better. I like Glenns idea, lawn mower and suck up into a bag..great idea Glenn, why didnt I think of that. I also have a leaf blower/mulcher like you mention but it hardly cuts the leaves up. They suck....lol

I rake leaves onto a sheet of plywood, then run my lawn mower over them with the bagger attached. When I'm lazy, I don't use the plywood. :-)

I have a Worx leaf shredder (nylon string) and it works okay with completely dry leaves. Way too much work with wet leaves as they clog it up too fast and you spend all your time cleaning it out.

Leaves, maybe. Branches, no.

Good point on the moisture. Anything with moisture, such as corn stalks, tomato plants, etc., will usually clog those machines up and it becomes an exercise of wasted time.
I had a shredder given to me. I later found out why. It was a big headache. These days I just get on the tractor and plow everything under. See it again in spring.

I have an Echo blower/shredder, does a great job but I usually have to run the leaves thru twice to get 16 to 1.
