I love to cook the young ones I cull when they're no bigger than a baseball. They're great at that stage when prepared any which way that you'd cook zucchini. When mature, they are often very good eating as well ( contrary to what a lot of folks have said about the big ones!). This does seem to vary from one pumpkin to another. Some might be bland, yet others are very tasty. My favorites are several versions of pumpkin soup, and pumpkin raisin cookies. I gave at least 700 pounds of my 1308 pounder away in 2010, and many people commented that it tasted a whole lot like butternut squash! The biggest difference when using Atlantic Giants in cooking is that you need to drain the massive amount of water, after steaming them. Our Dogs drool over cooked Atlantic Giant as though it was a side of beef! Retrievers! Go figure!!

You would be better eating a squash or pie pumpkin. The Atlantic Giants tend to be watery and flavorless.
Try a squash in your favorite pumpkin pie recipe and you will never go back

Also depends on what type of feeding program you are using while growing -- most of the larger ones have many chemicals used that you would not want to eat.

I grow mine organically and think they make great pumpkin pies and pumpkin bread. On the other hand, my wife doesn't agree and thinks sugar pumpkins are much better.

My wife likes to complain too, about the excess water that A.G.'s put out, when cooking with them. But when I make a big ol' batch of pumpkin cookies from my A.G.'s, she's as happy as a pig in a mud puddle to stuff her face with them! (Right alongside me stuffing my face with them). I tell her that it's a mighty good thing I don't make the pumpkin cookies any more often than I do, or neither of us would fit through the dog door.--( inside joke between me, her, and our retrievers)!
