Probably the only time a WR will produce another is if that WR was selfed. That is why it is always amusing to see growers pay big bucks for WR seeds at auction seeing as almost none of them (except the selfed 1725) have ever done extremely well and have certainly never grown anything close to WR size.

The 1385 that grew the 1725 did have a WR as a pollinator.

In the same manner, the 1161 Rodonis (which also grew WR) had a pollinator which grew a decent sized pumpkin (not WR but big...the 1566 Rodonis)

...and the 998.6 Pukos (which grew the WR 1689 Jutras) also had a pollinator which grew a pretty big pumpkin at that time (again, no WR, but it´s a big one the 1231.3 Pukos 05).

...and in case of a selfed WR, the pollinator plant also grew a pretty big one ;-)

As the seed doesn´t know whether the pumpkin is a WR or not, the "big x self" thing should be a general approach to make sure the seeds will produce a large fraction of big ones again. From 2011 the 1723 Marshall is such a candidate (1634 Werner x self), and in a few weeks there will be some more of the 1723 Marshall progeny on the GPC results list. Currently, it looks heterogeneous...(1505.5, 1347, 1246, 1135, 931, 885, 618.5...and my own 929.5, which hasn´t appeared on the list yet), but at least the 1723 is already proven to contain seeds which can grow a good fraction of big ones.

Actually, the 1566 Rodonis was a world record, though even more briefly than the 1843.5 Geddes. If I remember correctly, it was surpassed by the 1630.5 McKie, then the 1662 Young, then the 1689 Jutras---all within a very short time of each other in 2007!

Len Stellpflug did it a couple times with his squash...
653.5 ('88 WR)= 743 ('89 WR) 653.5 ('88 WR)= 821 ('90 WR)

I think its interesting that the 1725 itself was grown IN the year "2009".
Then its offspring actually weighed 2009, funny numbers. :0
