Does the shape of the bottom of the pumpkin(concave or flat)have anything to do with a pumpkin going over or under the chart?

Mine was flat as a board this year still weighted light...I think it has to do a lot with soil moisture and genetics

Well if everything else about the pumpkin is exactly the same a pumpkin with a concave bottom is going to have less volume so it would go lighter than the same pumpkin with a flat bottom. The real question is if there is any relationship between bottom shape and wall thickness.

Mine was concave and went 4% heavy.

Concave bottom = smaller cavity

I don't see how a concave bottom equals less weight. If all is the same(including the thickness of the bottom pumpkin wall), I would think a concave bottome would make it a little heavier, as it has more surface area.

Most pumpkins that we have had that are concave-ish on the bottom, are very thick on the inside of the pumpkin at that spot...

Concave for me always seems to mean light unless the blossom is way underneath in the middle of the pumpkin and that is the reason it is concave. That shape seems to go heavy.

Let´s imagine a pumpkin which is shaped like a ball...now imagine it will press itself down to the ground to develop a flat bottom: same amount of material, but the OTT of the ball is getting smaller...and now imagine that it would press itself further down while flipping the flat bottom towards inside, i.e., to develop a concave bottom (the extreme case would be a ball without cavity, two halves into each other: still same amount of material, but OTT is getting smaller. This model would predict a correlation between concave and +%.

...BTW, this year I had a pumpkin with some % heavy and a really concave bottom, and a light pumpkin with a flat bottom, but that probably doesn´t mean anything, because of further different variables (tissue quality, wall thickness etc.).

Mine was a little concave and went 17% heavy.

I have had concave bottoms with very little cavity and weigh right on the chart. But those were 600 to 700#, not 1900#+.

shoot look at the Freak 2, the blossom end looks like it's got a giant fat ass either that or thats the mouth where they feed it the small children.

I always wondered when they engulf there blossom on the bottom don't you risk breaking it off by having it on the bottom when you got to lift it and set it down ?
