What is the official US Marrow redcord http://egvga.webs.com/countryrecords.htm has it at 90.1 pounds. I find that hard to believe. It has got to be greater than that. I am going to go way over that with this next Marrow.

Yes as far as I know Dave Iles grew the US record 90.1 marrow in North Pole Alaska and showed it at the Alaska State Fair in Palmer.

I grew a 45 pound uow this year. 1st time trying a marrow. May try harder next year. Had a tough time setting them with all the heat we had.

Till this year 90.1 lbs was the US record. Only three growers outside of Great Britain have ever managed to get over 100lbs.
I don't know how you got to your estimate, I can only say that AG charts don't work. There is a marrow estimate chart on the EGVGA website, but sticking a scale under it while growing works even better.
Marrows hate heat, which is why they won't grow (big) in most parts of the US. 70F seems to be an ideal temperature, which is why they do well in Finland, Holland, Great Britain and Alaska.

I grew several (on one plant) this year in hot and steamy Kentucky, the heaviest being 35 pounds. Other than the fruit not going very heavy, the plant didn't seem to mind the heat. I'm not completely convinced that heat was the limiting factor. It was contained to about 100 sq ft. Once the vines reached the perimeter, they were tossed back into the "ring". The vines are still growing as of today.....

It isn't so much the plant suffering from the heat. They are sturdier than AGs even. It's the fact that the fruit will ripen too soon and miss several weeks of growth. In warm temperatures they tend to grow about 4 weeks and in cool temperatures up to 7 weeks. The same seems to be true of field pumpkins which are very close relatives.

Add NW Washington to th0se locations Brad. We are sitting at 55-70 most of the summer. Robin is down the drive from me and we have 50 + pounders all over the place doing nothing. With a little effort we can maybe get the weights up to challenge the Europeans. Temp clarification was good to hear. We definitely don't get the heat.
Wiz we will get you some seeds. My best last year was 57 hope to beat it over next two weeks. Robin's was 82 last year and huge this year. With your permission I can cut it open before the weigh-off, steal the seeds and mail them to you so you don't have to wait a month.

Bob was close, but we had an 85.5 and a 87 pound. We weighed 111 pound DMG and we have another big one that will get weighed Sunday. I wish the GPC would see fit to track marrow. That would be the logical thing for them to do. I will happily send seed to anyone that wants them.
