Welcome Josh. Go to the New Growers Forum in the message board listings. Go back to December 26, 2011 and start reading the posts by "pap". He won't steer you wrong. Excellent timing on your part, the work starts now for next year!

Tom has a couple programs broken down month by month you can follow at Extreme Pumpkin Store that worked great for me.

Theres a lot of ways to go in growing these giants. There is also a lot of opinions & theorys & some facts. You can do research on all the above & then go with what you think is best. You dont need everything suggested to grow a biggin. If you need help there are alot of folks who will shoot an e-mail back with there experience. Its hard to get real help sometimes on these open forums.A lot gets taken out of context on here,or taken to literally.

You will be going in circles if you don't get a soil test done first and foremost which will deal with nitrogen phosphorus and potassium (also knowen as N-P-K) also a ph test which you want between 6.5 and 7.5 . If you get your N-P-K all at the high end and have your PH good then nothing else is needed as far as fertilizing through the plant and fruit growing period.

My 2 cents any way

For those of you who sent the emails...when you have been around as long as some of us...you call a spade a spade to protect those that don't know any better

Most important thing is to have fun and not worry so keep it simple at your age and when just starting. Turn over the dirt a lot in the spring, add some compost to it if you can and mix in well. The very basic rule of fertilizers is N (Nitrogen) in the beginning of the season for plant growth, P (phosphorous) in the middle around the fruit and flower stage, and K (Potassium) after the fruit is set until the end. All 3 are important and need to be used so I'd maybe keep it basic and use a 10-10-10 or 20-20-20 which represents your N-P-K like mentioned above.

There is nothing wrong with Shannon's post. It was not an attack, just an accurate statement.

Freedom Is Just Another Word For Noting Left To Lose

Whitey, Are you being serious about people begging for seeds and selling them on E-bay? That's some pretty low stuff there.

He is not even asking for seeds, Whitey, so I don't get why everyone is being so hard on him. From what I see he started a few years back and is giving it another shot now that he is a little older. In the 3rd link above, his mom even emailed another grower. He is a kid, and all he is asking for is help now.
