When the season is all over I am going to post some pics of giant carvings for Halloween. I am hoping others do the same so I can get some creative ideas. Carved lots of them in the past and can say that a saws-all is my personal tool of choice!!!

We love the saws-all here. I've been wondering if a dremmel tool or a cordless drill bit could be useful for doing some stenciling work. Any suggestions would be great.

I have tried a dry wall zip-it tool on small kins befor but you need a very steady hand. These tools are running about 20,000 r.p.m. so if it gets away on you your jac-o-lantern is screwed. It also throws pumpkin guts everywhere. Now if you had a stencil made out of metal, you could be on to something here. The biggest trick is to thin out your shell to 1-2 inches befor you even begin carving so it is easier to work with. I have used 10 inch saws all blades and haven't got all the way through. You all know how thick these beasts are!!! Jig saws are handy for the finer details, then of course finishing touches are doneby by hand with a special carving saw. Walmart has them!!! Good luck.

I forgot to mention. For thinning the kin wall I use a small flower bed shovel. It slices through like butter. Be careful not to go too thin or light will shine through areas that you don't want it to. If you do this in a dark garage and put 200 watt spot light in it every once in a while, while your scraping you can keep an eye on thin spots.

A good carrot peeler, some Clay Ribbon Tools, a small grapefruit knife, and an Idea is all you need. For Wall thinning I have a tin can
