so it's a living fungi that has a Symbiotic relationship with the plant but if you leave some of the vines behind does the fungi stay in the soil till next year and then attach to the new vines or does it die in the winter ?

I only ask cause the stuff is $$$$PRICY$$$$

My understanding is spores only will overwinter.

remove plant so disease can not fester ---- mico spores will winter over in soil and also attach again to your winter cover crop.

The Ontario pumpkin growers bring it in bulk for their growers to cut down the cost. One of the people there might be able to tell you more. I went to the premiertech.com site and found a local supplier that was able to take me in a 15 kg.(33lb) bag of granular for $90 . It was not mixed with anything. They have a 1-800 number in the where to buy for Americans.

Make sure your buying the right species for your pumpkins. For example, ecto-mycorrhiza will do you zero good in your patch.

There was an entire thread a while back, but it got a little messy.

Essentially you want glomus intraradices and g. mossae is another and I can't remember the others off the top of my head. If it's an endo species you're probably fine and preferably without any trichoderma.

Is there a way to examine your roots after the season and tell if the Mycho has been effective?

Premiertech is the company that makes Myke's and as far as i know is a major supplier . I would ask the Ontario club to see exactly what they are buying but that is the price i paid the local ag store for the granular product for vegetables.(maybe i got a good buy) If someone more knowledgeable than me checked it out it might help a lot of people.

Yup I did some research and from what I found the Endomycorrhiza (other names- arbuscular, ericoid, arbutoid, monotropoid, and orchid mycorrhizas) will create a symbiotic relationship with the AG roots as long as you don't get the Ectomycorrhiza which only benefits some kinds of trees. I want to buy some but the price is crazy, i might just have to cut it down to 15lbs a year

A little myco goes a long way. Once it starts to grow and attach to the root system, it will grow outwards along with the plant. Continuing to add pounds of it is probably unnecessary, especially if you have an established patch and keep a cover crop going during the off-season.

A teaspoon is what is recommended for each leaf node, right?

Use a grated cheese shaker and you can probably get max area with max results with a couple of shakes.

Try to find someone to split it with if it what you want.Don't forget that this stuff has an expiry date and might not be good the second year. Maybe your clubs can talk to the Ontario club to see how they buy it for their members. Also comes in 500kg (1150lb) bag.

You need a lifting ring just to move the 500kg bag!!!
