should I panic with 25 days to go? Fruit is firm, growth is a slow 5-10# a day...wipe it off a couple of times a day and letting sun get to it....at 530 right now.

Anne,
I waZ instructed to clean out all the old rot, paint it with straight up Chlorox with a brush, let dry, then dust with Capton fungacide.... pumpkins still growing....Add fan if you can.....Good Luck
Last year I had one that completely rotted the stem, and lost the pumpkin... dont let it just sit there....

Borax is not the same as Clorox...One is Sodium Borate(Borax) One is Sodium Hypochlorite(Bleach)

If you need to use a fan and don't have electricity-you can buy a camping fan that uses batteries. The only trouble is those four "D" batteries get a little pricey running it 24/7.

I sraped all the crap off the stem and vine and doused it with peroxide for 2 days. What a differance a day makes!! Things are healing up quite nicely.Sunshine helped also> 24 days to show time!!!

I ended up using hydrogen peroxide...was amused to see the bubbling action, but it lifted all of the crap out of there, and the sun the past two days dried the cracks really well...will have to remember that next time! heavy rain coming, will cover all with a tarp, but with some room for airflow....thanks all of you!!

Thanks, Wiz!! Be glad when we weigh in 23 days...will let you guys know....powdery mildew took down the "normal" pumpkin patch this week, but the giant and her plant (right next to it) are still green and healthy....lots of beer for the grownups when the pumpkin hits the trailer on Sept 29!!!
