Colorado growers, HELP!!! How should we be adjusting our watering for the temp changes? Seems like a simple answer, but I cut back when it cooled down, then cranked it up again for the 90+++++ weather this last week. Just found 2 aborted guys in garden. I let one plant go and it had 3 kins on it. The big one is in a great location, and seems fine, but the ones that were closer to the plant rotted. Too much water? And are my bigger ones still needing that huge amount of water? Thanks....I am a bit worried, as my other guys look great and are still growing, but do not want to be over-watering my big guys. Thanks.

Nukid,
Your doing well! Your right, with our temps back to mid 90's the watering has to increase as well. Keep the soil evenly moist, but no puddleZ...... avoid thoZe big crackZ in the soil. Keep your tertiaryZ cut, the plant knowZ winter iZ coming and it'z doing its beZt to have more than one fruit. Be careful though not water late, aZ nights start to cool we will have perfect conditionZ for Powdery Mildew to go rampant. Continue to feed your pumpkin.....we have 4-6 weeks left.....Good Luck, see you at NickZ

Thanks, Wiz!!! Is 5:00 too late to water? I have drips on at 11:00 AM,1:00,3:00,5:00 PM for 10 minutes, and I hand water & feed at 8-ish AM. (See YOU at JaredZ first....of course, I won't have any giants to compete with all you heavy hitters!! Hopefully NickZ though!)

I water at 6:30am under the canopy and then above the canopy at 10:20, 11:00, 11:30, 12:00, 12:30, 1:00-4:00 (every 10 minutes for 20 seconds) 4:30 and 5:00. All of those watering are for less than 2 minutes except for the two yearly waterings. The 1:00-4:00 are for 20 seconds each and only about 1/2 of the plant gets wet on each cycle. I find spraying until 5:00 works fine most of the time. We get so cool at night I like to let the patch warm up after 5:00 before the cool night air sets in.

Thanks everyone! I guess it is a crap-shoot, depending on soil and temps....kind of common sense, but everyone speaks of watering an incredible amount, and I just don't want to drown my 2 "almost" giants this late in the season. Thanks again!!!!!
