I use two old bed sheets and one old felted blanket and just a pinch of shnaups..like always, layers are better. The cool mid 40's and 50's mornins I can lift that cover and its toasty under there for em.

I cover with a sheet, then I cover that with old carpet padding. It's thick foam rubber really insulates, then cover with a tarp to keep it dry. I uncover during the day to get some warmth from the sun, then cover to keep heat in.

So I take it only the pkin itself needs to be covered and not the whole plant?

---- sheets all day-all night maryann
---- over that pumpkin sittin on sand
---- even little mouses love to eat
---- do place mouse bait under that sheet

---- when the night time temps shes a dropping
---- time to add a blanket as a topping
---- dont be afraid of that late season storm
---- covering a with a tarp-not outta the norm

only cover the fruit, unless frost is possible. I, cover in the evening when night temps may drop below 60 with a sheet and a comforter. will add a tarp or plastic if rain is expected or when i water overhead. (protect the stem from moisture)uncover when the temps get above 60 or if the sun is shinning. I will put the white sheet back on when temp reaches 75.
