Last night we pull one of our plants out that had a split pumpkin. The plant size was 25 x30 It was loaded all the vines and pumpkin on a flat bed trailer and weighed it on a truck scale. We had a total weight of 1820. We know the ott of the pumpkin, so how much do you think the vines weighed.

Well any guesses, I will let you know on Wednesday

I'd guess 1/2 the weight of the pumpkin or about 600 lbs.

My vine is Green.
Does that mean it's weighed in the SQUASH catagory???

Or do the few splotches of yellow weigh it as a PUMPKIN??

30 ft of main vine @ 2lbs a ft = 60 lbs , 30 side vine at 12 ft long @ 1 lb per ft = 360 lbs, loose soil stuck on tap roots = 2.6 lbs..also factoring tissue density for that latitude ( .02 ) = 8.45 lbs.. so just taking a wild guess I'd say 431 lbs of vine weight (+/- 1.3 %)..lol
of course I'm just kidding..

After loading up three plants this year already I would guess the vine weight per plant at about 600 pounds. Back breaking work and frustrating at the same time!

The pumpkin taped 365 ott on the day it split 8-14-12 and was still growing at a nice pace. Est weight 1061. We think it put on at lest 40 to 60 pounds after it split and it was the 20th before we took it out of the garden.

Total weight 699# to 679#

Good Luck growing. The next time I hope we are hauling away vine only. We plan to scale that load also.
