Does anyone know the actual name of the fungus or disease we all call stem gooo. If we knew , we would have a better chance at fighting it. Hal

here come the judge,judg
gummy stem blight is one thing it could be.
keeping the stem area dry (at all times during the season) and coated with sulfer dust usually prevents any stem softening or blight problems during the season.believe it --it works.
ditto for vine splits judge ---- this time of year, especially after large amounts of rain, the fruit can only absorb a certain amt of water.pressure builds and the vines split.( pumpkins with suspect areas will also blow if they try and grow to fast)
you must inspect for this every day and if it happens? slit the opening a bit more to drain, sprinkle on the sulfer dust, then get it dried out with a fan. keep it covered when you water or when it rains.

Thanks Pap, sound like its something one has to practice from the start of the season to the end,not just when it shows up. Its to late once its in the system. Hal

Looked up gummy stem blight on internet and does not appear to be the disease we all describe as the goooo.
