does it make sense that cloudy rainy weather could cut daily gains in half? (just can't remember from previous years). Always that worry she going to bed when daily gains drop off a little.....plus I've got some mildew I'd rather not have....thanks pete

Yes, cloudy, cold, rainy days can slow growth but don't try to track gains on a daily basis. Growth over 5 or 10 days is a better indicator. When you get extreme swings in weather you will get extreme swings in growth, and your fast grower can blow. Nothing wrong with slow and steady growers.
Day 30 was always the day I would get my really big gains but this year it started at Day 25 because of the early spring and size of plant I had behind the pumpkin at an earlier age.

I am at day 24 so that's encouraging to read Curt. 10 lbs a day seems ok until I read about 30 lb+ days by others.

Hey Kevin! I thought 30 lbs a day was only something you could do in those pumpkin growing areas. Not in the middle of a city like ours and near the beach. My 985 did 30 to 40 a day for over three weeks!!! That was so insane to watch!!!
Soil, soil, soil and Tom P. of coarse!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Chris you just may be rookie of the year. I have low expectations. Just hoping for 200lbs to be a respectable first year weight. But things are going well and I can see that a bigger one may be possible.
It would be cool just to have a fruit make it to the scale at Pumpkinfest in Irvine!
