Why use sand around pumpkin. Pros and cons?
Thanks to all that provide information on bp.com.
Couldn't do it with out the community.

all pros.... pumpkin slides better when growing..... keeps those nasty pumpkin eating SLUGS away, water filters away from the pumpkin (keeps the bottom dry, you should use some mill fabric and on the top of that, some play sand. mill fabric will also slow down a nasty vole or mouse from eating their fair share.......

I always use sand and mill fabric under the pumpkin to help keep the bottom dry. It's also helps if you have to move or adjust the pumpkin.

i did things different this year....normally i put sand on top of mill. this year i made a flat bed of sand and layed the mill on top. no sand on mill....just a tiny squash.
