I returned from vacation to find 2 nice pumpkins with stems split/torn from vine pressure. I thought I relieved the stress but apparently not enough. Does anyone know if I can do anything to salvage these pumpkins? Will stem and vine heal if I relieve pressure and push back together?? Any suggestions appreciated.

Spray with a fungide, keep it dry and try positioning the vine to relieve the stress

Don,
How did you get that stem to fill in? Every split I've ever had like that was hollow.

If it is into the flesh of the pumpkin, Don and shannon give great advice.
Here is another picture of stem split that was sliced into to relieve the pressure.

Another thing you can do that always works for me is that if you have your pumKin sitting on top of mill fabric or insulation board you can always move your pumpkin pretty easy by grabbing a couple corners of what ur pumpkin is sitting on and ether pull the fabric foward or move it backwards to relieve tension on the stem of the pumpkin , it will slide very easy sitting on the fabric or insulation board. I have moved pumpkins up to 500 to 700 lbs with no problem by myself this way. It usally only takes no more then or less then a inch or two that you will need to slide it. I know the ones I needed to move has never been more then a half inch and that always fixed the problem. One last thing, if your pumKin is only sitting on dirt or sand you can still slide it by hand by pushing in or pulling out on your pumpkin, it will move, but be careful and move it slow.
