I am very saddened to report the passing of "Blossom", the daughter 0f 703 EST and 1495. Blossom succumbed to a combination of greedy, over-zealous grower and 2" rainfall in the form of a blossom end split(those growers MUST be stopped).
Blossom will join her sisters in passing at the Evans farm deer carcass pit at 1:00 P.M. today and will be sadly missed. Born on June 24, 2012, she began life as a pretty, shapely round pumpkin and grew at a tremendous rate at 18 feet out up to an estimated weight of 468 pounds.
It is ironic that she was done in by a 2" rainfall in one of the worst drought years on record after surviving the onslaught of oppressive heat, ravenous insects, and powdery mildew.

My deepest sympathies in your time of sorrrow. Dang she was a big and promising girl, may she find a promising buck to comingle with as she passes to compost in the deer pit. Sorry bro, thanks for the laugh, we've all been there.

Agreed Susie. If you can't handle disappointment, don't grow giant pumpkins. May as well make light of your own misfortune and plan for next year. Her epitaph will read:
"Twas the trophy after which I lusted. Had I been more careful, she might not have busted".
Being one of those growers with full exposure to the elements, my strategy for this year was grow hard and grow fast. Sad part is I'd just sent a tissue sample to A & L at a cost of 37 bucks(I'll send it anyway Tom).
