It's getting rediculous in my patch. I injected merit through my drip 10 days ago. I sprayed foliar merit AND bifenthrin a week ago. I swear both the SVB and cukes are eating this stuff like candy. My vines look like swiss cheese from the SVB and every time I bump a leaf a flock of cukes come rushing out...LOL.
Warrior for me is not a good option because of the kids around my garden. Anything else out there I should be looking into besides this apparent cherry flavored Merit I'm using.

Try Baythroid XL. Labeled on pumpkins, 0 day preharvest interval. It is actually used indoors and in restaurants when sold under the name Tempo. Adam.

My imidacloprid is 22% AI I think. I use .40 oz / 1000 sqft labeled rate. It seems to work for biting insects like squash bugs / cukes, but not for SVB grubs.

I had a lot of issues with cukes and started spraying liquid Sevin in the early morning or evening time and the next day I see a lot of dead cukes. I do have a lot of Japanese Beetle grubs in my soil so I injected Imidacloprid 75 into my sprinkler system. I used .8 oz mixed in with about 200 gals of water and a week later noticed no difference. Yesterday I used 2 oz mixed in with about 200 gals of water. I'll check again in a week. Hopefully, I see dead grubs. I should do a foliar spray as well with Imidacloprid. For SVB I have some traps set out within my patch which worked well last year. I have not seen a SVB this year so hopefully my traps are working.

I started using Bifen IT (Generic Talstar) at 1/2 oz per gallon and Merit 75 wp at 1/8 per gallon, I have not had any bug problems since. I spray every 7-10 days depending on the weather.I also do a couple of merit drench's, 1 right from the start and that seemed to help with corn seed maggots. I drench the plants in the pots right before planting. Bob

Yup merit don't work here eaither I've been doing weekly foilers at 4 tbs to gallon then overhead watering in, I'd swear my plants were pretty toxic but svb larva are still getting into my vines and not even being affected by it I've also done foiler weekly sprays of sevin and a few other products dunno svbs arnt killable here Dave

Chris..I have seen the same results by alternating Talstar and Merit 75 WSP...very few cucumber beetles, no Squash Bugs, and no damage from SVB's...all used to be a major issue..1/2 oz /Gal Talstar...1/4 tsp /gal Merit...Hope this helps..

I have the same issue here Chris...I normally spray twice with Imidacloprid...Once at planting Once Mid June...The SVB's are still hatching and borrowing...get in and die about the size of a waxworm...
I just did a 3rd spraying of Merit, and am using Triazicide and Orthomax rotating weekly

Here is what I have used for the last two years. I am very happy with the results. 1- ferti-lome tree and shrub systemic insect dreanch. Imidacloprid,1-(6-Chloro-3-pyridiny)methyl]-N-nitro-2-imidazolidinmine.........1.47%
2-Hi-yield insecticide.....Permethrin...10.0%
In the spring I did rototilled a grub killer in the soil.

Like Tina and Frank, mix garlic in as part of your rotation. It either works really well, or the drought and heat killed everything cause I have seen few borers and zero cuke beetles.

Chad! Shush!
Anyway it looks like I'm using the right stuff. It's probably that I'm simply not spraying enough...which is my fault not the bug spray.
And I actually have been using garlic. Like just this morning :) It's like a cloud of cukes ascending to the heavens when you spray that stuff...lol.

I have been wondering if merit is not as effective as it once was. I wouldn't depend on it alone.

Chris try Safari 20 SG Insecticide in rotation with Merit 75%WP. Using the same product too many times in a single season just makes the bugs mad. Both products can be used as a drench when spraying is not a good idea on a windy day or when the kids are hanging around nearby.

Chad, I generally use 1 oz per 1000 sq feet of the Bifenthrin 7.9%. Spuds is right on the Safari for additional control.

One of the issues with Merit is that it is a systemic product and takes quite a while to move throughout the plant. You are better off to apply it early to the soil. Chris I have the best luck with bifenthrin (Talstar). Also if you keep a really good patch of pigweed around cuke beetles love em!
If you are using systemics (Merit, Safari) please be careful what you do with your fruits at the end of the season!
