Not sure what ideal is but I am happy when the weatherman says lows between 60 and 70 degrees.

If you are running the AC at night they are happy :) scientific method of comparing energy bill to weight gain :)

I think he heats it to 65 at night, not cools it to 65.
I don't think there is a definative answer on the perfect temp for AGs. Most squashes like it a little cooler than tomatoes. If I remember right tomatoes like 70-85 day night range so 65-80 would be about right for AGs. The way I would look at it is if you are heating, heat to 65. if you are cooling, cool to 80 or 85 and save the extra money.
I grow strawberries in unheated greenhouses, but strawberries are cool weather plants and prefer a 50-75 day night range. production will nearly stop if you have 4 hours that are 15 degrees above or 10 degrees below the ideal range.

So lately here in Michigan it has been dropping down to 50-60 at night. Should I put a blanket on the pumpkin to keep it warm?

anything below 60 i put blankets over them.it keeps the core temp warm.big changes in temps are somthing to avoid.and yes it is getting cold here at night also.yesterday night was 48 last night was 50.the heat is on!
