There aren't many of us here in Southern Cal growing but enough to start a club perhaps? Chris and SoCal Kevin, Team Faith, Karen H, Gourdzilla and others in the San Diego area, what do you think? Eric in Thousand Oaks! Are you up for it?

There's a lot of miles between one end of this area and the other but a few meetings a year wouldn't be too hard.

a club would be fun. Southern california has a weigh off in los angeles every year put on by a gentleman named stuart shim, pumpkinmania is the name. The prize is a 1000 dollars to first, 500 to second, 300 to third. It is not gpc sanctioned and it is very late for our climate. October 28th this year I believe. If you can keep your fruit from rotting it's fun!

Team Faith - thanks for that info. I hadn't heard about that since there's no link!
They hold this years event at Tanaka Farms in Irvine, CA. I didn't know about it! That is only 10 minutes from my house. It might fit my timing well this year since my fruit is just getting started...
I will plan on going, pumpkin or not and hope to meet some of you there.

It would be nice to have a club in our corner of the country. I have a feeling there are more growers around here than we think.
I'm sure if there was an award for putting out the most effort and getting the smallest pumpkin I would win it every year. LOL

Chris, I've only been there once, last year:) I can't remember who won, but the weight was 980 lbs. Seems to me you are growing a pretty darn big pretty old pumpkin off that seed too!

Yea Jim,,, heard about that guy in the news paper! :) Got in touch with him, he sent me a few seeds and now my life is consumed with growing giant pumpkins!

And for the 980 seed,,,, thing was 504 this morning on day (33) doing 25 to 39 lbs a day still! I think its a goooood seed:):):)
