I think D30 is more interesting since you can calculate the average growth from D20. The average is what I want to know.

Ott was a baseball player for the New York Giants in the 1930'3. He had a very unique batting stance where he held his front leg up in the air and hel the bat way behind him about waist high.

you can grow like lightning but if you don't have good growth after day 40 and beyond the big #'s before that won't count for much. But I do like watching lightning

My best 20 day OTT was my last set pumpkin and it was today. It has the smallest square footage area in my patch. It is 1476 Hopkins * 1789 Wallace. Both feature 1810 as pollinator. I'm gonna push it to see if I can make up for sqft.

I have found out this year that when I grafted my main vine onto a 100 ft beach tree that my OTT numbers increase a few inches from previous years .

90 in circumference is our best..finished at 930#....None of it really means anything till 500#. We have taken alot of measurements and notes and an interesting few things stick out. what that fruit does the following 7 days after it reaches 500# or 287" OTT (chart 2005) tells us alot on what to expect. Now this is somewhat skewed to the plant having a normal run to the end as well as the fruit. But under normal condition we have never has a fruit make it to 4 digits unless it did atleast 130 pounds over those 7 days. Had one do 125....ended 980 ish.... Also 130# over 7 days being a minimum to make 4 digits the better fruits have done as much at 270 pounds over those 7 days. Also we can look back and see that fruits that run there normal course over the remaining days of the season generally (in Iowa for us) will end up being somewhere close to double what they are at about day 39 if my memory serves me correct. I know climate and plant health and all that enter into the whole scheme of things I am just sharing what we have fond in our patch here DAN

Dan has the hot weather helped or hurt your fruits growth. The humidity and heat has done a number on many plants and hurt the fruits growth here in NE.

My biggest ever was 227.5. The key however was the fact that that same pumpkin was 400 OTT On D55.
If you want a crack at 1500 ballpark is to still be doing about 25 / day when you hit 1000.
And now to create much false hope....LOL....1810 was 184.5 D20.

My biggest day 20 was 224" but it didn't do as well down the stretch. Most of my fruits that have raced out of the gate haven't finished as strong as the steady growers.

well lets just say this..IF a fruit gets to 23# /day here this year..it's considered a real screamer!!LOL!!...Obviously this season is pretty much a wash here .. .2 inches of rain here for 9 weeks is a killer...add in the temps and WALA!! it's tough....fruit aborts are the normal for us...plants being pulled by us and others in the area....some are completely done some have a couple "still going" ..or limping along...I am not bitching here I understand weather is all part of it..I have seen it before and generally get over it thru time!!LOL!! I could only give info of pumpkins up to 1300 and 1400...we have never reached the 1500 mark so it was good to see Chris chime in there with some info....I think the info I passed on would work for those uf us not expecting WORLD class fruits...We are realist here in Clinton..could it happen yea anything is possible but not probable...that said us growers shooting for PB and such this will give you something to think about...I used to compare to those real giants and our numbers were always behind such "special" fruits..So we put together alot of info over the years and compare our fruits with some of our other kins from past years..it makes it interesting...Good luck all ....it's a tough year again but the ride is still fun DAN Ps..Back in the day WAY Way back in 2004 (still our best fruit to date Damaged or not) we got to 1000 on day 44... she had a 3 day run or 183# and held together for another 12 or so days. from 500 to 680 in 3 days. Blossom end split.day 45...caulked and grew until foaming hit near the stem on day 68 or 69..cut and weighed officially cert. scale witness and all at 1432....never had another like it since...so enjoy the ones that go crazy!!!

Dan thanks, I to just grow for PB so am looking to hit over 1500lb and ride it out from there. Looking back seems to be crazy the way we keep setting the bar higher each year, but I am not a pumpkin crazy just in it to compete with some of the best people i have ever met and have some fun. sorry for the bad season, but a bad season of pumpkin growing is still great memories! and thank you chris for the imput I am happy to have it

Thats if we reach day 20 here in Bristol......lotta abort equal late pollinations and wasted time. Kind of zapps your motivation to grow anything and let not even talk about the critter trying to make dinner out of the plants.......shotgun in hand and careful not to damage any leaves while the 00 buck hit the whistling pigs!
