Well i have officially decided its not my year for pumpkins. We are 10 inches of rain below yearly average and bugs have been terrible. And to top it all off i had neck surgery last week and wont be up on my feet completely until August. My Giants havent been hit by the SVB's but are growing slow. My Pie pumpkins are small and have had SVB grubbs. The only plants that seem to be doing well are Goldrush and Solid Gold.... Should i just throw in the towel on the year? I can only be outside for a half hour a day im running out of ideas.....

I wouldn't quit yet. Do what you can and let them self sustain. You won't grow records, but you'll have some payoff this fall.

ive picked probably 50 vine borer larvae out of my plants. I havent lost any plants yet to them. Soil is cracking badly in spots and it seems everytime rain is in the area it disappears. I literally watched a line of storms today go right down I70 from richmond. And break up right at brookville and fire back up at englewood (Roughly 5 miles away)

I know the feeling. We are in the worst heat wave of my 58 years. Beetles have been bad, pumpkins aborting, short on rain. I had a torn hip muscle repaired in March that kept me in a walker 6 weeks and using a cane another 4. I have hand surgery coming up on the 24th that will limit me again for a few more weeks. I'm just going to ride out this year and not worry about what happens. There will be more seasons to come.

On the otherside of the coin, we have absolutely no sunshine. Its cold and dull and the pumpkins just refuse to grow. It's like entering a horse race minus a horse. Regardless of all my effort from fall to now, there's just nothing I can do about it. I'm not quiting but I am down and beat for now. As Iowegian said, there's always next season. It's just a long wait!

i did a walk through this morning and i had two healthy Solid Gold Plants just quit over night. Leaves are wilted and the plant looks like death. And ive noticed in the part of the patch that was a first till this year has no cracking and the plants are healthier.

I pulled a plant 3days ago. Just died from the heat. Just a tough year. Have less thuan 100 bushel corn this year. Use to have 200 plus corn. Bugs are eating soybeans and we miss every rain in the area.

Sounds familiar, my pie pumpkins are pathetic. I honestly will be lucky if i get anything out of them. Maybe a good rain is all i need to turn it around. On another note our goldfish and bullhead breeder ponds dryed up also. So im losing money on both this year
