After battling these moths for years I have finally tried something that works.
Crop Row Cover.
Not one borer this year.
Now if only something would work on squash bugs.

Agree, I use 95% super light weight row covers with 9 gauge wire hoops down the main vine..just have to manually move the secondaries out when they get big..so this take extra time. I'm thinking of keeping them over my Connecticut field as the SVB have trashed them this year...even with my SVB traps...which are working..but just too many.

Ive never seen SVB so bad in my life, years before id maybe see one or 2.. this year it was 10 + flying around laying eggs every single day i was out there, I started spraying Merrit every 7 days at 2 tbs per 1/2 gallon of water, no damage noticed yet, but still early to tell too :-() Dave

Same here, they are everywhere this year in force.
I see them trying to lay eggs when I'm tending to the pumpkins with the cover off.
I use a light cover by Dalen sold under the Gardeneer name.
The leaves have no problem supporting this cover without any supports.

What do the eggs and larvae look like and how long after eggs are laid would you see them???

eggs are small and brown, the signs of larvae are the orange fuzz or sawdust like clumps on the stem. If you cut the vine open you will see the larvae. I was catching them small but since the surgery i have pulled 1 inch grubs out.

I had one land on my hand and just sit there... I think it did not like the merit infused plant. Then I wacked it.

Hundreds in the trap. They laid thousands on the plant. But no damage, them little s.o.b's can't handle merit.
