If you can get a hold of some mill fabric use that. Gp to the beach or ocean and get a few buckets of sand. Gently get the sand under the pumpkin. The sand wi allow the fruit to slide reducing the chances of a split . Not only that the pumpkin can be moved slightly if theres some sand. If you cant get any mill fabric you can use some plywood with sand under it. The trick with useing sand is to make sure you put enough for the pumpkin to comfortably slide. The plywood will make a barrier from the ground to the fruit reducing the risk of pathagens entering the fruit. The mill fabric works even better since water can drain through it. God knows you dont want a pumpkin sitting in water.

I'm using sand. Others use styrofoam or other things.

I'm going with two layers of mill fabric this year. That way you can easily slide and re-position your pumpkin even when it weighs a few hundred pounds. This is according to one of the Las Vegas speakers.

What is mill fabric? As I'm Flemish I don't know that word and translations on the internet are giving absurd results...
