My MacKinnon 103 seedling has a pumpkin(18x17x14) that has been fully orange for over a week. I crossed it with the 162, so I want to maximize the developement of the seed, as well as achieving the maximum weight. Is full development at color change, or does some inside growth, maturity of seeds keep happening? Another factor is the temp here next week is supposed to hit up to 105 on monday, and I don't want it to explode from expanded air(dont really know if this is something to wporry much about, but this is my best pumpkin so far, so any help would really be appreciated.

Keep them on the vine as long as possible...give it some shade, and keep it dry. They continue to grow after they turn orange as long as the plant is healthy

I have read and have been told that once they first start turning orange they've reached their maximum size.

Keep it on a while, these new big field pumpkins grow quite a bit after they start turning orange. Heat isn't good though.

Stem color is more important than rind color.. Keep it treated with a fungicide to prevent PM on the stem.

Measure the circumfrence. If the pumpkin is still putting on weight the cir. will get bigger-you have to be accurate cause it might be a small increment
