I have a 2 week old 1057 Bryson that is growing well and it is probably time to put something under it in the patch like sand, hay, wood, or plastic. What is the best material? Thanks.

Sand. A 4 inch layer about 3 feet in diameter over a piece of mill fabric will enable the fruit to slide as it grows without being damaged by friction.

Be sure to use play sand. It is fine-grained and consistent in size, decreasing the chances of damage from sharp edges.

And be sure to move the fruit at the hottest time of the day, enlisting the help of a friend.

Thats probably the mill fabric in most cases.

Some people get away with landscaping material, but mill fabric is what the heavy hitters use.

mill fabric is the best because unlike just plywood or a sheet of plastic the belting material allows for water to pass thru and not get collected under the fruit.
we start with a 3.5 ft sq piece of thin plywood,then lay a larger /wider strip of mill fabric over the plywood.
it works great. just dont let the pumpkins edges grow over the mill fabrick and onto the soil---will promore a rotten spot late season.
ps---if you cant get your hands on some mill fabric/belting material? cut up some strips of that black wind fence and lay it over a sheet of plywood.(tuck the edges under the plywood) this will allow water to pass through as well.
