How long is a female still viable for being pollinated. I pollinated this morning. But there were no freshly opened males this morning and I had to use two males that were a couple days old and they didn't have much much pollin left on them. If I get another male to open tomorrow will it do any good to add some more pollin into the female on its second day?

You might as well try.The day old pollen wont likely work unless its been real cool.I dont think the female will still be fertile tomorrow. If you dont try well never know

I have read the viability window closes fast. Sunrise to later in the after noon. By 5:00PM its a done deal so I have read. I havent experimented......HEAT and time of day shortens the window....

you stand a better chance with a day old male than expecting a female to take on the second morning. chances not great for either.contaminated male or a contaminated female - either is not good even if it takes. theres always the next female down the line right? pap

Start cutting some fresh males every day available and put them in fridge for back ups for a day or so. Read Tom's article at Extreme Pumpkin Store about it.

I had a study on this on my other computer...Every hour past 9:00 decreases it like 10% then by noon it is 40% then by 5:00pm it was non viable.
Good thing is it just takes a few viable grains to get the process going
