I had a leaf that had the edge start to droop 2 days ago. then yesterday It turned to this.....

http://www.bigpumpkins.com/Diary/DiaryViewOne.asp?eid=180587

There were three more leaves yesterday that were displaying the same symptoms that the first leaf was the day before. I looked at the Mad Scientists presentation and I am worried that it could be Phytophtora. The droopiness of the leaves kind of have that look and it seems like it could be progressing the way that it is described there.

I also think that I have excess nitrogen. There are several Leaves over 24 inches and the plant is only 7 feet long. It really doesn't look like the pictures in the presentation though.

The concensus I have heard so far is heat stress and they could be right because the other three leaves seemed to have perked back up this morning.

Any Thoughts.

My initial thought is Phytophtora and excessive nitrogen can encourage this problem to some extent. The rate of spread is also favoring phytophtora, but it is early in the year for this problem (typically) and the leaves surrounding the main leaf in the picture seem normal. So, next are some questions…

Does the problem seem to be running down a vine or are just seemingly random single leaves exhibiting these problems?

How has the rainfall been? (high, low, consistent?)

Is only one plant showing symptoms or do multiple plants have leaves that look like this?

Its only on this plant my other plant is fine. The Plant is still in a greenhouse I have been watering twice a week with Alaska 5-1-1

It is sort of running down the vine. The one with the worst damage is the oldest leaf the next 3 kind of have simultaneous damage at the edges.

Joel Holland looked at the pics and he thinks it is Heat stress. from not having enough ventilation in the green house. I think the plant is getting too much nitrogen and that may have weakened it against the heat. I,m going to stop the ferts for a while.

Vent the greenhouse and cut back on the fertilizer and see how it goes. If it does not spread heat stress is probably the cause, if it continues to spread it is something else.

The damage has not progressed any further. And the plant has continued to grow well. Looks like it was just leaf burn.
