Just curious since it is hard to keep up with all the grower diaries, but what plants are each of you excited about now right before the big phase of pollination time? I know "we aren't growing salad", but I have seen plenty of big name seeds out there this year.

Hey Luke, great post. In short I don't know how I'm doing compared to others. In some of the diary pics plants are out past 12 feet and ready for pollination. Mt best is 830 Kenneally ( 1421 Stelts x 1610 Lieber ) and it's out about 8 feet and secondaries just starting. Where do I stand? No idea but having fun.

I have no idea either. My smallest plant has a nice pumpkin forming. A few others are growing like weeds and have twice the plant growth with tons of leaves but no sign of the first female flower yet. I'm told leaf size and stem size means nothing????? I guess I won't be excited until July 1 when I should have four or five females pollinated and the real race begins.

If I were to compare my patch with some of those I have seen on the diaries I would be really discouraged. So I am not going to do that. Compared to other years I am doing great. In fact this is looking like one of my best as far as pumpkin growing. The weather here has been nothing but crappy and I have been trying to hold my own. Yesterday we had 20-30 mph. winds and the temp was in the very low 50's. It was supposed to freeze last night but the low was only 43. Starting today the weather is doing a turn around. Despite the weather plants are starting to take off and today I will probably get to release a couple from their pens. I have been so busy with things that I haven't had time to do my diary but hope the next couple of days will let me take some photos and post them. It's something how the plants you think will do well are outdone by ones you really didn't have much stock in.

Best start ever for us. About 10 days ahead of past years and started at the same time. Lot of time left, and the proof is in keeping these wonderful leaves going, providing the staying power and late season growth needed for a new PB. I believe all 3 of ours will make the grade. 1150 Weston, 1436.5 Liggett and 1566 Rodonis.

Hey luke, I've got a 1232 M. Smith that is at 19 ft now with 2 females fixin to be Pollinated this coming week but the one plant out of the plants I have going that looks realy good is the 1365 Singleton '11 .....the Plant is huge and curently is at 12 ft with one female coming on. I saved the 1449.5 Traylor at 14 ft with 1 female about to be pollinated. I've got one of your 525 est Puricelli's back in the ground after it was half way dug up and I believe its going to pull out of the shock cause its still spittin out Males lol. This is my second year growin AG's so I feel blessed at this point lol. Take care

at least i have not read any posts discussing how many leaves our plants have? sometimes its the biggest earliest plants that are the most disapointing. some plants take off slower than others ? some never take off at all ? and some grow like weeds and produce average fruit. every once in a while though you get a plant and pumpkin like we had last yeat ( the 1789 wallace est)and if that does not get the juices flowing? your dead-lol have a good season everyone pap

Kreig, I saw you had a wind storm. I had a couple bad ones last year and used bamboo stakes and zip ties for the collapsed leaves. They will keep for a while and that way you don't lose so many in one day. Some kept till I pulled the plants in the fall. Nice cats too!

Yep already had to do that once this year. Bamboo and zip ties work. Thanks
