If a grower plants orange seed and has very healthy plants with agressive growth and big green leaves and yellowish vines are the chances of the pumpkin being orange better?

I've always heard the yellower the vine the more orange the pumpkin. Of the few I've had that were deep Orange this was correct. But like anything else I'm sure there are exceptions.

From my limited exposure, this doesn't ring true -- maybe I'm just the exception.
Below are two pictures of my first year (where I was told the same thing). The vine on the 1368 Liggett was as bright of a yellow as you can imagine all season long. But in the second picture you can see it was far from an orange pumpkin. http://www.bigpumpkins.com/Diary/DiaryViewOne.asp?eid=134744

And my other pumpkin that year (1108.5 Miller) had the darkest green vine that I have seen yet. http://www.bigpumpkins.com/Diary/DiaryViewOne.asp?eid=140103 And although it was not deep brilliant orange, it grew 2 orange pumpkins. http://www.bigpumpkins.com/Diary/DiaryViewOne.asp?eid=140966

If you have seeds with good orange genetics the odds of the pumpkin being orange are good.. But remember we are growing freaks here and things in real life are not always the same as they are on paper..

most of the time if you have yellow vines you do end up with a orange pumpkin. at least thats been our experience. there are always exceptions for sure. a very large percent of the time though id agree with the yellow vines = orange pumpkin theory. pap

One of my plants last year had a vine the same color as the one cntryboy showed in the first picture, a deep almost neon yellow. The fruit it produced was white with a bit of pink and green in the rib valleys. Go figure...
