Have you ever had this feeling? The gut wrenching stomach turning feeling that you get when you try to reposition a vine a quarter of an inch more than you were going to only to have it snap off in your hand. I've been growing for 6 years and should know better. I should never be allowed to touch a vine again un-supervised (I'll have my wife do it)

Always wait until it is in at least in the mid 70s and full sun is shinning in the afternoon to move vines.

Thanks for the advice NP. Unfortunately it was in the 80's and about 1:00pm when this happened a couple days ago. It's amazing the mistakes you can repeat year after year when you know better.

Know exactly what you're saying Patrick. Our good friend here on BP.com, Cecil Weston(countryboy) posted once either on our website or blogger dashboard, and I hope he will chime in here for an exact quote, "Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result each time you do it". I have never forgotten it. What you did was simple human nature and some of us have to repeat mistakes time and again before we finally get it (that includes me).

Sorry about your loss. I may be wrong but am sure I read that the best time to reposition vines is first thing in the morning or late evening. Less likely to snap. Anyone else ???

Thanks Tina. It wasn't a direct quote. I was prodding Cecil. Thanks, I'll remember it verbatim from now on.

yes Tina it was Albert Einsteins quote.
Here you go Joe -- the exact quote. "The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results."
There is another one that Dr. Bob uses frequently when talking to people about pumpkins that kind of applies. I beleive it is usually attributed to Henry Ford and Mark Twain.
"If you always do what you’ve always done, you’ll always get what you’ve always got."
