Two years ago I had twin vines on two of my plants so I know exactly what that is .Double leaves, double everything then after about the fifth leaf, split and go their separate ways.
This year I'm of to a great start but after the third leaf the main is about 1 1/2" high and 1/2" wide. The fourth leaf is growing straight off the bottom so I manipulated the main so it will pass that leaf.
I think the plant will be fine ,but can anyone explain this flat vining to me.Is it anything to worry about?

monster, just for info, see my diary entry http://www.bigpumpkins.com/Diary/DiaryViewOne.asp?eid=179283

My 852 is putting out twin leaves and double secondaries at each node. Unlike your main splitting at the 5th node, mine has reverted back to normal growth at the 5th. However, I'll have to watch the tip for splitting into two mains. Also, I noticed a part of the stump early on that could have been more flattened than normal but we'll see

This is how I do mine. http://www.how2growags.blogspot.com/p/beginners-guide-to-growing-giant_892.html#Shading the pumpkin|outline

They are easy to make, reusable, stay about 3 ft above the pumpkin, allow plenty of airflow, and will withstand 70 MPH winds that we have had.

Here is a link to a picture of how I cut the PVC "T" to make the stabilizers using two of them and a short piece of pipe between the hoops (drilled and tie strapped of course -- wouldn't want one popping out and hitting the pumpkin) This makes them very rigid in all directions.
