Hi. This is my first big pumpkin. It is in a 1 gallon pot under a grow lamp. It's been doing well - only about a week since it broke the surface. The leaves have always been kinda curled. But now the stem looks a little less full and flatter than it was earlier today. The soil is constantly wet - it never dries out even on top so I only water about once a day. I wonder could it be too close to the light? The light is about a foot above it. Is this too close? Does it need fertilizer? Just don't know. Thanks.

Since it's been only a week since it germinated, are the leaves you're referring to the cotyledons? If so, expect them to be stiff. True leaves will appear soon. Don't water at all if the soil is more than moist.

My 2 cents ,I would say the light is not close enough.I like to keep them about 2" away from plant,I don't want the plant to grow leggy ,trying to reach the light. Terry

Thanks. I'll move it closer to the light and not water. We'll see how that does. And yes - the leaves are the "sprout leaves" not yet the true leaves.
