Last year I gave a local kid some of my seeds. He's young but pretty good at gardening, as is his entire family. I have no idea why they stuck those plants out in a field with no water... it was bone dry out there one day when I went to look at them. Well, each plant was doubling... but more than that. On one of the plants the stuff on each node would go 2X with each node, so that it was double, then quadruple, then octuple, etc... it was bizarre.
I explained to them that these plants need water, lol...
But I never thought to correlate the two, the lack of water to a problem with double/flat vining.
