hello everyone, i have been all over the message boards getting as much info to grow bigger pumpkins. i have grown pumpkins three years in a row. i use just store bought seeds and have only had 50# pumpkins is it the seed" big max"? it says they can get 300#. i know AG's are best but dont have locally. or is it my ph"7.6-8". i have had issues with vine borer, i have taken precuasions this year for them but could use some tips thanks in advance.

Your pH isn't helping, but it is your seeds that's really holding you back. There are probably some growers in your area with extra AG plants to spare.

I would say it's your seed. The first year I started, I got good seeds planted them. I didn't fertilize or water. The only thing I did right was only letting one fruit grow. Ended up with a 289 pounder. Beyond that it is all the other tlc that will give you the big one!!!

Definitely it is the seeds, I struggled for years before I got the good seeds you can get on bp.com.

I'm located in Joliet IL, thanks wiz i found a local farmer that had AG seeds.

any other tricks for vine borer? i was going to use a insect spray specified for them. whats better to use as a fertilizer, liquid or a throw down mix? im starting with a 5-15-5 for the root growth.

Do those AG seeds have a pedigree otherwise you are in the same boat...
