Folks, I need advice for a temporary problem. Until my pumpkin plants are put into their permanent home, I have the option of moving them between a heated space with a grow light OR outside in the sun, but subject to cool days. Which is the best of two bad conditions? Warm, but under WallyWorld grow light, or cool, but in the sun?

Thanks!

Nothing can replace the sun....since they need to get used to sunlight and outside...I vote for outside...

sun during the day and a cool garage to harden off for at least four days (or more ) before going outside.

if you have artifical light (if needed) and a heat source inside your final planting area(a greenhouse for example )then you could go direct from house to greenhouse.just be careful not to cook the plants especially those first several days of sun.

personally we still like to start by exposing the young plants to daylight/sun and then cool garage for at least the first 4-7 days before going to that final resting place.
your climate will have everything to do with your methods as well.

Our seedlingZ are protected like this outside....

Hooper covered with R10 Hoop house breathable cover, covered with Agribon-15 So thatZ R 25 over the top. Then I have a tomato wire hoop over the plant with a BIz sheet of plastic over the plant again......

On the first two dayZ I ususally install a 24" X 6' sheet along the path of the sun to allow the rootZ to take hold before it getZ blasted with sun. Layer by layer they come off.....in the next two weeks once the vine layZ down.....
