Looks like Sanford , Maine is going to have 2 giant pumpkin Regatta's this year and we will be looking to purchase around 15 additional 500 to 700 pound pumpkins for a special event scheduled to take place on Friday afternoon Sept 28 ( Yep , same day as Topsfield Fair Weigh Off .)
Our normal annual regatta is scheduled to take place on Sept 22 along with the GPC Weigh Off . This date is etched in stone as we also have the " pumpkin drop " that is done annually here using WWII airplanes so all the pumpkin events are done the same day as the drop .
Long story short , Google " 2012 Fireball Run " you will read information about Universal Studios ( Florida ) that raises awareness and supports the search for missing children and so they conduct this " Fireball Run " in different parts of the country .
When they contacted my home town ( Sanford ) to ask if there was anything unique or interesting happening on Sept 28 when they will be driving through , Sanford told them they were missing the pumpkin activities by 6 days so Universal asked them IF they could hold their own giant pumpkin regatta on the 28th so this is why you are on notice .
Maybe you have room to put an extra plant in to try and grow a pumpkin boat for this event . I've been told Sanford will budget $ 200. for each pumpkin boat needing at least 15 at the time of this printing . Contact person , phone number unloading dates and location still unknown at this time .
More to come on this later .

Thanks for the heads up, Al. I might have to start a couple extras, Dana.
