I was wondering if someone can tell me what caused it's demise.Steve stated on the aggc that it was a poor choice of female but i am wondering if it was blossom or stem?? I have 2 on the go that are looking great!

hi donkin. with all the effort and resources your putting in this year, I personally would not try one with bad blossom ends. Jeff lost a few to that, granted they grew great but end result was a damaged pumpkin that wins no prizes no matter how big. Stem issues are not fun either but with effort and daily attention there are a few things you can do. Sorry I know this does not answer your question

Carl, look at it this way. Steve said it was a poor choice of a female, yet it produced a 1314 lb. fruit, albeit damaged, which had nothing to do with pollination. What did the pollinator produce? Do you like the cross? I know that you know the answer to both questions so why not go for it if both are looking great.
The answer to your question, I don't know but remember the 901 Hunt that blew apart Phil's 1269. He said it was his most aggressive plant before it blew. The next year it did what?
Carl, go with your gut. You did the work, BES is attributed to a lot of things, personally I don't think it is genetics. I think you are in a good position to produce a new NS record and who knows after that.

Was it a bes,a stem split or a soft spot???? Was the pumpkin growing so fast it blew the blossom? 20% over the chart is a pretty thick pumpkin for the blossom to come out of it..i would think.I agree Andy..lots more to bes than genetics for sure

Mr.T. The 1475Revier was listed as dmg and it grew me a pb of 1280lbs in 2010. The 1288Wallace that grew Jim Bryson's 1404 was also listed as dmg and we all know what that grew!! Just something to think about:)

http://www.bigpumpkins.com/Diary/DiaryViewOne.asp?eid=173494 Check out the blossom on this one which is 11% over. The 1314 was 20% over so you would think the blossom was extreemly thick.
