How long do you soak your A.G. seeds after filing them? I'm just wondering if there is a best practice regarding this.

I'm sorry, I just noticed the Seed Starting Message Board. I should have asked there. There is some relevant info. there already.

I wrap them in a paper towel and place in a cup of water to soak them evenly for 4 to 5 hours with great success. I am proudly tooting my own horn to say at 88 degrees in seed starter mix under humidity dome and seed starter mat with thermostat, I have gone 52 out of 52 two years ago and 71 out of 72 last year as I start many for commercial growers and friends. Everyone I have shared my knowledge with and tried my system has gone 100 percent. Plain tap water used here to soak.

I do similar to Shazzy, and it depends on the thickness of the seed. Take his advice as he's been growing for a while.

If the seed floats and its a 1647 wallace -its no good -send it to me.Other seeds that float are fine. Most seeds float. A better test is to drop seed on table.hollow seeds sound different than seeds that have a seed germ in them.practice with a few to get the hang of it.

Some Sink Some Float...depending on density.

I like that percentage Joe...lol....and the one that didn't sprout was from a 5 year old seed. I just hope my success carries over this year for the big dogs. Even when you think you got it all figured out.....whammo...life throws you a curve. There are plenty of ways to achieve the same results. I was very happy to hear from growers this year who went 100 percent and 3 people last year went 100 percent duplicating my procedure. What ever works best for each individual is ultimately the final test.

I have been doing germination tests for the last month, and tested over 150 seeds and I have yet to have one sink. So far all 150 plus have floated.

I'm switching over to the Shazzy method. That has to be a record success rate.
