Here's something to think about...
Did you know that the 1818 / 1810 world record pumpkins were grown at 45.06 latitude and 45.09 latitude?
That puts Jim about 1.9 miles north of my location. I find this extremely interesting! Not to mention encouraging! LOL.

Wow, Half way between the Equator and the North Pole. That's great news for northern growers. We all thought Wisconsin was to far north. Now at looks like were in the sweet zone.

True Glenn, and Dale I think you all are on to something up there. As for furthest south, Van Hook holds that record I believe which is pretty impressive for their temps. Nice post, Chris. I haven't looked up latitude and longitude in many moons.

Go to Google Maps Latitude Longitude Our Latitude is 44.277 Close enough to grow a world record long gourd. What about the field pumpkins and squash

One thing that is kind of interesting is that the sweet spot seems to migrate every 4 or five years. When I first started growing everyone thought the pacific northwest was the best. Then New England. Then Pennsylvania, Ohio etc. Now Wisconsin, Ontario and Quebec, northern Michigan. It will be interesting to see what the weather brings this year.

35.192 here. Still think temps and humidty are bigger factors. Knoxville has the same latitude but average temps are 10 degrees cooler.

So does the same logic apply to 45 degrees South? that would pass through Chile, Argentina and New Zealand's South Island.

Nice post and very interesting, Thanks Chris. Personally, I think the new location for the WR will be in the 41s. If the further north makes a difference, well, you can see where that will be :-). Lisbon, Iowa = N 41.920721 / W 91.388188 Clinton Iowa = N 41.846863 / W 90.207330 Des Moines, Iowa = N 41.590939 / W 93.620866 Weighed in at: Ananamosa, Iowa = N 42.108954 / W 91.281476

39.56 here in Quincy, CA. More than a degree north of the Napa and Santa Rosa boys so I can't use latitude for an excuse.
