Matthew DeBacco has been growing pumpkins for 12 years and held the Connecticut State record in 2008. He graduated from the University of Connecticut double-majoring in Pathobiology (study of diseases) and Horticulture with an additional minor in Molecular and Cellular Biology. He has since completed his Masters degree in Agronomy (study of growing field crops), focusing on organic suppression of powdery mildew on cucurbits. He has taught Plant Diseases at the college level, as well as other plant science courses and works with area farms on nutrient management plans. His scientific background, coupled by a balance of real world experiences, ensures all audiences a better understanding of the material covered.

In his presentation at the IGVGC in Niagara Falls he will focus on actual in-field photographs of common pumpkin problems. Conditions that can increase the odds of encountering the problem will be given and specific identifying characteristics for each problem will also be discussed. Being able to identify a potential problem early can help ensure corrective measures are implemented to prevent further damage to the crop.

The time to register for the convention is now! All seminar information can be found at http://www.pumpkinfest.org/page.php?page=seminar
