Once again I have watched an auction where bids were taken after the the auctioneer said "Sold". Time to clean up our act I think.

Not sure what you're talking about Phil, I was there all night and didn't see that happen. If it did happen, well then I apologize on behalf of Team Lunatic. This was our first try at an on-line auction, and thought it went pretty well. I guess we would all like to be perfect at everything we do, but I just don't think that's realistic in my opinion. It was a bit crazy on my end, time flew by, If I missed something, I'm sorry. I don't remember too many complaints, and we're sorry if our auction upset you.

Not sure if you have run an auction on here Phil. If you haven't, give it a try. Ain't as easy as it looks. Many computers running at different speeds equals not everyone instantaneously receiving info. And not only that, we are all human. Usually if there is a mistake the group chimes in and all is settled fair and square with no beefs. Maybe you have seen something different, but some understanding that we are not professional auctioneers....just idiot pumpkin growers trying our best. And if you have run one, maybe it went perfect. Never seen a perfect one yet.

Phil it sounds to me like a connection or speed problem check back the same transaction 30 seconds later in chat and you will probably see that it is okay.

It may have been that you were receiving stuff in a different order due to speeds and such... usually the auctioneer goes by what is on THEIR screen and takes stuff in that order. Which is the best that can be done.

(I have been an auctioneer and it is a bundle of nerves, especially if you have your system go down DURING live bid... but. If it prints on the auctioneer's screen before they have their 'sold' hit screen, it is picked up again as live bid. That may add to confusion, especially if your screen due to delays, sees the sold then the bid which was picked back up.)

Seriously Phil?

We had two minor incidences which were quickly adressed without further issue.

Not once was there an issue after I had called sold. I did screw up and announce the wrong winner of a lot but that was corrected and righted in seconds.

Phil, internet connections and speeds, as already stated, are not synchronized worldwide, or even locally.

I have been outbid a few times due to slow internet here in Vermont. Last week, I found out Internet Explorer chat is much faster than Firefox chat.

What you see happening is not necessarily in real time.

The auction last night was one of the best this season, including response time to confirmation emails.

Hopefully, you can be present at an auction in the future to understand what really goes on behind the scenes.

We were worried about these issues. We did have some supports in place to help us.

Last night we started by getting together at 6:30 pm for a voip via Skype Conference call.

We tested the connection speeds with BP several times before the auction began. We determined each persons delay time and then retested a few minutes before we started. Chris relocated to get rid of a 3 second delay. He rejoined just before from a remote location with a .5 second delay.

JV lost his IT connection and was linked to us via Skype by his cell phone tethering to his computer. We also had backup links in Blackberry Play books as well but these were not needed.

Chris was connected by his modem at a resort through a local Wifi connection.

Pretty amazing technology. For a bunch of IT challenged pumpkin growers it went pretty good. The connection via Skype was strong and clear for most of 4.5 hours we were connected.

I watched the entire auction. Didn't see one example, but if you connection is slow it can feed you posts differently. Sometimes when I watch the auctions on my phone it does that.

I honestly don't know whats up with Phil. I have attacked him in the past on the GVGO mainly because I felt he only ever contributed negativity. I can't remember a post from him that was positive or kind. His sole reason for posting seems to be, just to stir the pot and question/critcize a clubs policies. These are my interpretations. Phil is obviously more complex than I can understand and I feel sorry for him. I believe in free speech but at the same time we could all do without the rain on our parade.

Just for the record, Russ did write sold on that lot but the other bid came in before his entry. 4 of us were on Skype and all saw it the same way. Cheers.

OK. So Phil had an internet problem..speed processing problem or whatever.Chris... Phil is definetly not the only person you have attacked negatively on the GVGO.As a matter of fact you come across as the most neg person the pumpkin growing community has ever heard from.I have never heard a positive word come out of your mouth and you and your attitude are part of the reason why i no longer post or am a member of the GVGO!!! YOU have an attitude problem and have just made a personel attack on Phil but lets wait and see who's post is removed first.Just my opinion but the GVGO was a better place without you.:)

There was even another lot where the bidder was at $80 and outbid himself @$90. We all agreed on Skype that he will get the lot for $80. We ran this thing honestly and ethically.
Cheers. :-)

LOL @ DONKI. I have a major attitude problem Carl. I don't like cry babies. I respect that you defend your friend. That is honorable. Still, I respectfully disagree. I think there has to be at least one or two people in this community that is more negative than me..... :-)

Just because we are both from Nova Scotia doesn't neccessarily mean we are friends.Nova Scotia is a big place and i have never met Phil Dance. This is a pumpkin growing site so why don't you start sharing some of your knowledge on how to grow a giant pumpkin.. judging by how much money you have spent in the last few yrs i suspect a 2000lber will come out of your back yard this year.

I don't think you can buy a world record. If that was the case you would see a 2000lber in my patch for sure. I have spent a small fortune.

I'm having a great time at Disney with my family so this will be my last post on this topic.

Cheers.

Ya just can't please everyone.

Fact, is yes 60 was bid before sold was called.
Fact, there is a delay and the lag causes this.
Fact, I don't have the Money, Technology or for that matter the skills to fix the problem other than to do exactly what we did.

Fact, we did work hard to avoid this and it still happened. Sorry Lonnie....I totally apologize to bidders for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Offering a gripe without a solution hurts reputations and hurts those that work hard to support this community. I can never understand why there is always so much animosity coming from the likes of a few.

Come on folks we are all so much better than this.

Point well taken. Lets move on and grow bigger pumpkins.

Ahhhh... I feel better now......

Great Phil thanks. The coffee we shared together last year was terrific I hope you do well this coming season.

IMO Chris is a tremendous supporter of auctions.

The group might find it interesting that he left his family alone at Disney during dinner to support and help our little auction. He took a bus last night travelling to a known hot spot to find a better connection to reduce his lag time. He literally went the extra mile for Woodbridge and the Lunatics.

Keep speaking your mind Carl. You are our version of heavy D, just better looking.

Chris, to you a crybaby is anyone who doesn't share your point of view.

Phil lives in a very rural area, no doubt his connection speed was the reason for his perceived problem. I didn't see anything unusual during the auction.

Carl's post " trying to make friends Phil?" should have been the end of it but no, you had to break from your vacation AGAIN to keep this thread going. I wonder why there are no posts from Atlantic Canadians anymore on the GVGO site.....Russ, great job circling the wagons. You have a very tight knit group there working hard to support your weigh-offs. Great job last night.
