water crystals?
I used them under tomato plants, about one quart, dig planting hole one more spade deeper, put them in and plant plant on top with a few inches of soil between them and the roots.
Pumpkins, I tried it under one at the stump; problem to give enough to plant to make it really do anything, is pretty hard.

Russ, I used them in my hanging pots. The product was called Hydrosource. One pound of this product will absorb up to 48 gallons of rainwater or snowmelt or 20-35 gallons of tap water. The granules, once hydrated, look like chunks of gelatin about 1/2 inch in diameter. I also did a search for you, http://www.google.com/search?q=polymer+site%3Awww.bigpumpkins.com&hl=en&client=firefox-a&hs=GKd&rls=org.mozilla%3Aen-US%3Aofficial&num=10&lr=&ft=i&cr=&safe=images Hope this helps. I havent used them in the garden just flower pots so I wouldnt have to water so much. Croley Bend
