Legend...hell. His legacy is that he is a morel slug who chose to protect the pedophile Sandusky and do the minimum required so as not to tarnish is football program at Penn State.

I wonder if all those boys he decided not to protect for the sake of his program are sad today. Just saying. I am a huge college football fan but it says alot about a mans character to put football over the safety of children. Those poor kids lives will forever be scarred.

When it came down to it Joe fumbled the ball. When it came down to it he didn't do enough to report what was going on. With all the power he had in the community as well as the University, why didn't he do more to report Sandusky and see something done. He didn't want to hurt the program......As a leader you have to take a stand and do whats right. I'm sure he was a good man but his ignoring such things tarnished a great career as well as a legacy.

The old saying remains the same. It's only a game...Never is the safety or the well being of children put aside because of a game or football program. It amazes me that people aren't more upset at the non-action of the coach as well as the University. It calls into question the ethics of such an institution as well as the leadership of those in charge. In this whole ordeal we forget the innocent victims of this terrible crime. Those poor kids having to endure the stigma of abuse as well as people dismissing what really happened and putting the spotlight on how the program was hurt rather then how they where hurt.

For those who you who want to put him in the class with the people who do the crimes maybe you should check your facts a little more and not just drink what the media is pouring. But that's how society works today, the media spews whatever they want with few or none checking to see if what they spew is factual at all. Then Americans become instant experts on everything. About a year ago America was filled with Japanese Sunami experts.

Kenny, about the only thing you got right was the leadership of the university failed, meaning the President of PSU and the PSU Board of Trustees, as well as the current Govenor of PA, Tom Corbett, who was the Attorney General of PA at the time, he made the decision that there wasn't enough evidence against Sandusky to press charges. Paterno turned it in to his boss, the AD, and another guy. What was that other guy's job? He was the head of police, not some cop buddy of his, but the HEAD of police. So many people seemed failed in this case that is seems unbelievable.

Do you believe the DA of Center County and the AG of PA could conduct an investigation on campus and no one on the board of trustees ever knew about it?

It also seems funny to me that the exact same people who were throwing Paterno under the bus just weeks ago are now saying what a loss it is to PSU and the community.

Oh I get it Kevin, so just because he reported it and did nothing about it, it was okay. If that was any of us what would we have done. I can only speak for myself. I would have petitioned the university and campagned to have Sandusky removed and if no action was taken I'd have resigned in protest. Like I said he did little to address the problem and the University did nothing. Not enough evidence? Why is Sandusky being charged on multiple counts now? Say what you want about him as a coach..He was a good coach and not a bad man. His reputation unfortunetly will be one that is tarnished. Kevin, the entire school failed. Most Universities try to blanket most internal problems so they don't make the University or community look bad. The campus security act enacted in the late 60's says the universities must report all charges of crimes committed on the University property. No doubt they didn't dig enough to get the evidence they needed. The entire leadership as well as the witnesses who saw what was happening di

(cont) did wrong. How could they possibly not do anything? It just blows my mind why they didn't do enough. Paterno was most certainly made to take the fall for an administration that had to cover themelves from what happened. Martin luther King said something like this "In the end we wont remember the action of our enimies we will remember the silence of our friends.

I'd like to clarify something in my priviouse post. I believe Paterno wasn't a bad man and was a good coach not Sandusky.

Kenny- someone tells you something. (You didn't see it). Now your gonna petition the university and campaigne to have someone removed and if no action to remove the alleged violator is taken your going to resign? You didn't see it....and your doing all this on something someone said?

Thank you Glen! I'd like to also add that at the time there were no accusations against Sandusky, just what the grad assistant told Paterno. And at the time the incident was reported to Paterno Sandusky was no longer a coach. It's hard to believe the obvious needs to be pointed out so often. There are many more details to this case that would take page after page...but then again who cares about annoying little things like the facts?

Kenny, it's clear you don't know many, if any, of the facts in this case. I bet if you were running for President of the United States you would cut taxes and create millions of good paying jobs. Right?

So i guess that the other posters on this thread that agree with me don't know the facts to right? His assistent said something to him and it was a big time accusation.....I get it Sandusky is innocent right.....we live in a nation of laws and when this is all over the truth will come out. Paterno did the minimum that was required of him to do. A leader and a man will stand up and do what's right even when its not popular. Sorry Glen and PA grower but I don't buy it. If It where possible I would fire the university administration for their inaction. I'm not against the students I'm for the protection of children as a father of two kids as many I get a bit upset at hearing this. That idiot Sandusky molested our future and the university chose to ignor it.

That's right Kenny, you and they don't know the facts and probably don't care about the facts. I've never met anyone who supports child molesters and can't imagine I ever will. I assume Sandusky is guilty. But you can't see the forest for the trees. Just keep on drinking the Kool-Aid.

Kevin, I like the Kool-Aid reference.(google Rev. Jim Jones) I do think the university, trustees, gov.,D.A. failed. As for Joe Paterno I do not think he truly understood the heinous nature of the act committed. I do not think it was conveyed clearly to him by McQueary. Nobody but Joe knows what Joe was thinking. If he really knew the true extent of the crime then morally he had an obligation to pursue further action after his superiors dropped the ball. I think he understood it more clearly over the past 3 months and it tore him apart. Jay Paterno said his dad died with a clear conscience, for Joe's sake I hope so. As for Sandusky, throw him in the general population of the worst prison in the state. I am a P.S.U. alumni and father of three kids. Right now I am sickened that this could go on for so long with no consequences. Not so Penn State proud at the moment.

Trust me when I say that Sandusky will fit in prison just fine in fact the rest of the residents at that schoolhouse we like to call prison will probably be playing cards with Sandusky within a week of his incarceration. The old adage remains " there's no honor amongst thieves"

Very well said Andy, that pretty closely sums up my feelings at this point as well. The media has made this about Paterno and the football program and twisted up the few facts that are known and the times in which they occured to create a story that sells more copy.

The real problem here now is the people who should have taken greater action are sitll in power, still on the board of trustees. These people hold political offices and are the leaders and CEOs of very large corporations. They managed to deflect all the blame that should have fallen on them onto the football coach who followed the rules that they had in place. These people are still our "leaders". A little bit of research shows that many of these "leaders" are intertwined by more than just PSU, they are on the board of trusees for each others corporations and donate great sums of money to politicans that are involved.
