I've come across the odd article on growing science and I'd like to publish them in a club newsletter. What's the legality in doing so? Keep in mind that's it's a non profit organization and the author would be credited. Is there an issue with the publisher who may own the article?

You should be fine if you cite it.

If the information is published in a peer-reviewed scientific journal, the article cannot be reproduced, as it is sole property of the publisher.
Other types of literature may or may not be subject to copyright infringement. No matter the circumstance, etiquette within information sharing circles always dictates that permission is sought and granted by an author/publisher before anything is reproduced.

If it's been published anywhere, you SHOULD get permission of the publication, AND from the person that wrote it, and also cite both upon republication. ...
