I had my first appointment at the cancer center yesterday.
It turns out I don't have 2 tumors, but only 1 tumor. That runs from mid-chest up to my neck.

Which sounds scary. However, I've had it for a least 2 years. This means it's such a slow growing type, I forget the name, it's very treatable. I guess small cell lung cancer is the aggressive one that grows and spreads fast.

On the up side, my doctor told me they won't have to treat me as aggressively. So, I won't be getting nearly as sick from the radiation and chemo as many cancer patients do.

This has been such a wild experience. I went from feeling I was a dead man to I've got this licked. My fear now is I'm being too optimistic, I have to remind myself this is cancer and I'm just starting treatment.

But I most of all want to say thanks to everyone. I was never big on the power of prayer until now. A number of amazing and miraculous things have been happening to me that I can't explain. Like I'm not Jewish, but I had the Pass Over Angel visit me in a dream and I am the oldest son? That was the first night after I got diagnosed and
thought I was a dead man. The worst case scenios have been passing me over since.

Are Angels real? I've sure been left wondering lately.

I see you are getting a taste of faith. I know this to be very real. Some may say that its not, but they haven't faced death. Faith can only developed through experience. Before we was just told to believe, but that was hard to swallow. If I could make just one suggestion. That would be continue to test it, by asking God for strength. That he would show you what he would have you be today. Then at the end of the day thank him for walking with you.

Amen Darren! God deals in the realm of the impossible. Anything this is possible we can handle ourselves. Keep the faith and believe in Him, miracles do still happen my friend. God Bless you and I will send up a prayer for you on this end!

The reality of answers to prayer that are sent out (to the God of The Bible) make me think about the wind. It's an amazingly powerful force at times, yet we can't see it. I think we have a natural tendency to not believe in things we cannot see. What makes it even harder sometimes to believe in this "power of prayer" is that He doesn't always answer them in the way we would like! But when He does, WOW! I will sure be praying that those "worst case scenarios" keep right on passing over you!

Great News! With cancer, optimism is what the Dr. ordered. You can beat this! Faith is a very strong force and yes I believe in angels. I have one of my very own.

Thanks everyone. I start radiation therapy Wednesday and I feel like I really want to get this started and over with.
My doctor told me to count on having a patch this spring and I'm hoping that says it all.

Jack, many times God uses jolts in our lives to get our attention and to help remind us of our need for him. Sometimes we are brought to a place where we must face our own mortality before we consider him. This life is temporary, but in this temporary life we choose where we will spend eternity. Much has been made lately of Tim Tebow and the Bible verse John 3:16 but that verse would certainly apply here. Praying for you Jack.
