Sorry I’ve been absent. But I was feeling really under the weather the last few weeks. This morning I began coughing up blood and went to the ER. Where a CAT Scan has revealed I have a tumor in my right lung and it’s spread to lymphoid in my collar bone area.

All the doctor could tell me is it depends on what type of lung cancer I have. Some types are very treatable. I won’t know until I go in and have a biopsy this week. So, I don’t know exactly how to feel about it at this point. Mainly numb right now.

All I can say is please don’t smoke and if you do, try to quit. I know I never thought this day would come. Not at age 53!

In May of 2010 I was also diagnosed with lung cancer. They were unable to take a biopsy, so I underwent full thorasic surgery. After a sucessful operation I am still here. So there is always hope. BTW the pathology report after the operation revieled that the tumour I had was not malignant.
My thoughts are with you Jack, I honestly know what you are going through.

I work in a surgical unit and I have seen and heard of some amazing recoveries. The human body is incredible and cancer treatments have come a long way. Don't give up, don't feel sorry for yourself. Your attitude is everything. It's the best weapon you have in your arsenal. Concentrate on the things that matter most in your life like friends, family and all that you enjoy doing. Set some goals and keep yourself and your mind occupied. You'll be amazed at what can happen when you set your mind to it. Best of luck to you and I have no doubt you can come out on top.

jack keep your head up, just quit smoking 3 days ago, smoked for 30 years! very tough, its funny how we need stuff to go south on our bodies before we do anything, with-in the last 6 months i also had an operation for cancer, then a month later found out i had diabeties, wow, then a week later lyme disease! i have never told anyone till now,( except for close family and friends) the reason i'm telling you this is that ,i will never give up, and you should never give up! live every day with your head up and sandy is right! there are amazing recoveries around, and if your mind is up for it , you will beat this, bless you, scott.

I was diagnosed with cancer 13 years ago. Did 5 months of surgery, chemo and radiation. Not a lot of fun but have been cancer free since then. Your attitude and prayers are the most important thing that you have when you deal with cancer. Lean on family and friends and make the best of it. My time with cancer turned out to be one of the best growing parts of my life so make the best of it.

Giant Jack, Cancer seems to be hitting people more and more, Just this last year 3 people that I work with have died of Cancer needless to say it never gets easier. Cancer can be beat. I saw a good friend of mine fight it for over 5 years having to drive to Boston 3 times a week to the Dana Farber center. He's no longer with us anymore but he put up a good fight. I hate that disease and I wish you well. I swear that I certainly will make sure I keep you in my prayers. Good luck bud and remember that it isn't over till its over! Stay strong in mind and spirit.
