Have grown pumpkins for 20 years and have been told by university people who specialize in pumpkins a three year rotation is best to prevent disease problems Just wondering how people who dont have the room to rotate prevent disease problems? What kind of Fungicide or disease preventing chemicals do you use for your giant pumpkins?

I remove all the old vines and leaves to get those potential disease carriers out of the patch. Rotate the end of the patch where the stump is planted to help with root diseases. I dug drainage ditches around the patches and used the soil to build up the patch higher. Better drainage helps prevent a lot of problems. I use several types of organic fertilizers with different beneficial bacteria and fungi that help fight off diseases. I also have been using Aliette sprays and drenches early in the season, may have to switch to Agri-Fos which is chemically similar. A shot of Daconil whenever any powdery mildew starts to show up.

We only have room for an occasional 1 year rotation. Our patches are well drained and get cleaned out immediately at the end of the season. We use Compass and Immunox(Myclobutanil) mostly for systemic and Pentathlon(Mancozeb), some Daconil, Stylet oil mixed with baking soda and this year Actinovate. Usually some Root-Shield goes in the mound and rain covers are put over the stumps. We have never used any pre-planting soil treatment.
