Here's mine 1002*** Jarvis X 1495 Stelts. Seems crazy BUT: totally different lines, the 1495 produces crazy almost green pumpkins, and who knows. OK G let me have it, you too Amelio

Sorry Eddy, you won't find any worthwhile green genes in the 1495. Dave's was a result of accidental color manipulation which can happen with any seed.
now, if you're looking at it from a shell size + green thickness long term project, that would be an interesting angle, but you'll really have to beat that line repeatedly over the head with more green after putting some pumpkin in it.

I figured that Andy, I grew one of Quinn's Squash X 898 this year, not one green offspring, actually color was quite a bit like the 670 Daigle, as far from green as you can be. But who knows, and if it works, it's a good thing.

Last time I grew squash I made a 703* Smith x 865 Mettler. Essentially the squash version of the 723/845. good green fruit, but of course the pollinator was a [white] pumpkin. I I gave that seed a shot and got a nice orange stem splitter.
1495 x 898 could be a good one, depending on how the particular 898 does. Mine was a dud when I grew it and a couple others went light. But if you get lucky, watch out.

Andy, what do you mean when you say 'accidental' color manipulation of Dave's 1495 that he grew?

He used towels to shade the fruit, possibly in layers (feel free to chime in here, Dave). Those let no light through, unlike a single bed sheet most use during fruit development which allows just enough light penetration for normal fruit coloring. When you look at the 1807, you can see clearly defined lines where the orange and green meet - that's the edges of the shading, and you would not normally see such defined lines in a regular "squmpkin":

And while we're at it, how about a shading lesson with a little bit of history, courtesy of the wayback machine:

My 1272 Barker and another grower who grew the 1495 both our 2 1495's had the same shape and greenish coloring in it with the slightest bit of very light orange

Very good info Andy, make full sense too. So in turn if your growing a marginal Squash color, solid cover will help you in getting darker and green right!!!

Wow! Andy I can't believe that's still around. That goes back to the Mallorn days. My 1081 started getting colour so I took off the covers. Every where that was heavily shaded stayed pale and then turned green late. Some can go orange under shade and some go green. My 1029 was completely covered and was completely orange.

Eddy, remember my 681 squash? It was marginal and was going lighter when covered! I pulled the covers off to get some green.

Andy,I turned a 846.5 calai fruit green on top by shading(100%) it with something that only covered 60% of the pumpkin. The fruit was a nice orange with a green square on top.
