I am a new grower in the Uk and just grew a few pumpkins this year for my kids. I read the book 'backyard giants' and was hooked. I found this website through the book and have been amazed by the helpfulness and responses from all over the world. I am looking forward to recieving the seeds promised by everyone and can't wait to get started on next years patch. Thankyou to everyone and especially Pumpking for all your help in answering my ignorant questions. Cheers all

If you don't ask questions, you won't learn anything.

All of the top growers started out ignorant.

Some became smarter faster than others.

Welcome to the club.

if you have good basic gardening skills its more than enough to get you started.what you make of it from then on is up to you.
as you can see by reading "backyard giants" success does not always come easy in this hobby. failure is part of the learning process however, if you stay the course, keep trying and learning?, you will be rewarded.

Hi pap
I thought the book was great reading and almost had a tear in my eye when you made it through the season and weighed in the big one. I am trying to get hold of a seed or seeds from you guys and have written to Joe as I would love to grow a pumpkin from a Wallace seed, or if not a Jutras or any related seeds from growers mentioned in the book. I will hopefully get a reply from him soon or if you had any spare seeds I would be honoured to give them some UK love. I was bidding on the 1401 Wallace on the GVGO seed auction but as it will be only my second year growing pumpkins and only my first year at growing a big one I think it is a bit much to pay $70plus, no disrespect. I have joined the GVGO so will have there pack of seeds and various other growers from around the world have offered seeds so hopfully one somewhere should have some 'Wallace' in it. I like the look of lot 12 the 1385 Jutras in the CTGS&PGA Seed Auction 2011 but I expect it will be popular so will fetch good money. Maybe next year I will have some prize money and go for a truly great Wallace seed! A Wallace 1068 would be great as it is the one from the book.
Anyway, an honour to have a message from you.
cheers
steve

Hi Gingerchef, Pap, the Wallaces are very generous with seeds. You should find his email and ask him for a Wallace seed. I'm sure he has something with a 1068Wallace crossed into it. I don't think there are any 1068 Wallaces left or it will cost a fortune to get!
